The screenplay as well as the eponymous novella are written by David Jan Novotný (winner of the 15th Annual Book Club Award for his manuscript “Sidra Noach”), a Czech novelist, university professor, journalist, established scriptwriter for the TV and feature films alike, author of a ten-some short-story collections, novellas and books for children, theoretical essays on scriptwriting and script supervision, as well as journalistic articles. His latest novel “Gilgul” was published by the Book Club in 2013.

The story of five foolish old men from a fictional village of Kumburk, is a not so far-fetched pleasant fabrication. Senior Quintet is a feature-film debut of the young and talented Tomáš Jančo, Slovakia’s No.1 TV-SHOW DIRECTOR.

To make a good comedy is probably the greatest director’s challenge, that’s why we’ve put Tomáš in charge as his work resume includes the most popular and successful Slovak TV shows of the mentioned genre. The legendary “Panelák” (Housing Estate Block), co-written with an acclaimed Slovak actor and writer Andy Kraus has become the most watched and the longest running TV series in the history of the neighbor Slovakia (920 episodes in 5 years). The show is a winner of the OTO Award in two consecutive years of 2011 and 2012. Other popular TV shows directed by Jančo include “Susedia” (Neighbors), another comedy series, drama series “Pod povrchom” (Under the Surface), or a family show “Keby bolo keby” (Had There Been) involving Czech leading actors.
